King Salmon are available from the first of May into the end of July. There are two separate runs of kings in Cook Inlet. The first run consists of fish that average in the mid twenty's up to 30 pound range with fish up to 40 or better not uncommon. They run from the first of May through the third week or so of June. We primarily use cut plug herring for these fish that usually run close to shore in 40 feet of water or less .
Our primary catch is black rock fish. Other species like quillback, copper rock, yellow eye and ling cod (ling cod may only be kept after July 1) can round out our daily limits. Many times we find these schools of fish suspended in water less than 100 feet deep which enables us to use light jigs and gear to maximize the fun. The action can be fast and wild! This is a great trip for lots of action and loads of fun. A great family trip.
The rivers and creeks on the Kenai Peninsula offer a wide variety of fishing opportunities throughout the summer.
Within an hour drive, the world famous Kenai River and the Kasilof River have runs of king salmon, sockeye and silver salmon seasonally throughout the summer. The Kenai also has a world class rainbow trout and dolly varden fishery.
Closer to our area are the Anchor River, Ninilchik River and Deep Creek. They all have runs of king salmon, silver salmon and dolly varden. The king season begins on Memorial Day weekend and the two weekends after that. The silvers begin to show in late July or the first of August. And, to top it all off, the Anchor River boasts a very nice steelhead run in the later summer months.
We can get you set up with the gear and get you headed in the right direction to fish these fisheries or assist you in getting booked with a quality river guide service.
If you have any questions regarding what we fish for please
Rock fish are available all summer. We fish a combination rock fish/halibut trip in scenic Kachemak Bay out of the boat harbor in Homer. This trip combines some fast, fun fishing with some spectacular scenery and chances to see whales, otters and other sea life.
Razor Clams
are available throughout the summer on the minus tide series. Digging takes place on a number of beaches with the most popular the beach in Ninilchik. We can get you set up for digging these tasty treats.
Silver Salmon show up towards the end of July and run for 3 to 4 weeks into August in the Inlet. These fish are great fighters and when they are in, fishing is fast which usually translates into some nice fillets to take home. There is good fishing in the local streams this time of year too. These salmon average around 10 pounds and are the favorite of many anglers.
A four person limit of razor clams--literally a "bucket load".
The second run of kings begins in late June and usually lasts through the last week of July. Although the overall run size is smaller than the first run of kings, the average size jumps up to the 40 pound class. Because the majority of the fish in this run are bound for the famous Kenai River, fish in the 50, 60 and even 70 pound range are not uncommon. Trolling in shallow water, usually less than 20 feet with spinners is the primary method of choice for these awesome sport fish.
We troll for silvers in close to shore, usually around the mouths of local streams. When silvers are in the local streams, we have rod and reel combos available for our guests to use when fishing gets hot. This is a fun time of year.

Halibut are available all summer. We fish in water from 40 to 200 feet deep depending on what the "bite" is like. The average fish is in the mid twenty pound range with fish up to and over 100 pounds not uncommon. We use the launch sites at Deep Creek or Homer to help maximize our fishing time. Our run to the fishing grounds can be from 1 to 15 miles from our launch site.
Specializing in "Lucanus--ing" for a variety of species. Lucanus jigs are "killer". You gotta try 'em!
Recent regulatory changes have caused some confusion on halibut limits. In the area we fish, the limit is 2 halibut per day with no size restrictions in place. At this point, there is no reason to expect that to change for 2011. Feel free to call me for details. Thanks
